When do iPhone Duo pre-orders start?
Pre-orders open Friday, October 16, 2026 at 5:00am PT / 8:00am ET through Apple’s online store and the Apple Store app, with AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon checkout options. First deliveries and in-store sales begin Friday, October 23, in more than 70 countries. Apple’s “Get Ready” tool is already live so you can save your configuration tonight.
How much does the iPhone Duo cost?
The starting price is $1,999 for 256GB. From there it climbs fast: 512GB is $2,199, 1TB is $2,599, and 2TB is $3,199. Two colors, Star White and Night Sky. Apple Card Monthly Installments bring the base model to $83.29 a month for 24 months at 0% interest, though that requires postpaid service on one of the three big carriers.
Trade-in softens the blow. Apple’s trade-in credit runs from $35 to $885 depending on the model and condition, topping out with a flawless iPhone 17 Pro Max. The Apple Upgrade lease program starts at $57.99 a month over 24 months, and with a 17 Pro Max trade-in it can drop as low as $9.24 a month on a 12-month lease.
The 5-minute prep to do tonight
- Open Apple’s “Get Ready” page and save your build. Pick color, capacity, carrier, and payment now so checkout takes seconds tomorrow. It does not reserve a unit.
- Update the Apple Store app and your payment method. Pre-order morning failures are almost always expired cards or old app versions.
- Check your trade-in value on Apple’s site. Values are ceilings and can change; today’s quote is not tomorrow’s guarantee.
- Decide carrier vs. unlocked now. Carrier bill credits look generous but lock you in for 36 months; leaving early cancels the remaining credits.
- Set an alarm for 7:55am ET. Be in the app, signed in, with your saved build loaded before the 8:00am ET start.
The supply problem is real
Analyst Jeff Pu cut his 2026 iPhone Duo shipment estimate from 7 million to 6 million units, citing hinge production constraints rather than weak demand. For context, Apple is expected to ship around 72 million iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max units in the same period. A September report put Foxconn’s final-assembly yields slightly above 60 percent.
Translation: this is not manufactured scarcity marketing. The folding hinge is genuinely hard to build at volume, and the first batch will be small. Reports in the last couple of days say Apple has increased Duo orders by roughly 30 percent, though the 2026 total is still expected to stay under 10 million units. If you want one at launch, tomorrow morning is the moment. Waiting for reviews means waiting for the second wave.
Carrier deals worth knowing
AT&T is offering up to $1,200 in bill credits spread over 36 months, for both new and existing customers, with a trade-in worth $230 or more on its Premium 2.0 plan. There is also $200 off online orders and up to $800 toward a switcher’s device payoff. T-Mobile’s deal is reportedly up to $1,000 in trade-in credit on its top plans, which is notably less than the $1,200 it offers on the iPhone 18 Pro. T-Mobile has not officially announced Duo pricing details, so that figure could change before tomorrow.
Verizon has no Duo-specific discount, but its Verizon Loyalty program waives activation and upgrade fees for postpaid customers who enroll through the My Verizon app. Expect all three carriers to sharpen their offers on pre-order day itself.
What you’re actually buying
The Duo unfolds to a 7.6-inch OLED with a 5.4-inch outer display, both 120Hz ProMotion panels hitting up to 3,000 nits outdoors. Inside is the A20 Pro chip. The frame is grade 5 titanium, 5.2mm thin when open, 254 grams.
Three things to know before you spend two grand. There is no Face ID; authentication is Touch ID in the side button. The camera system is a pair of 48MP sensors, main plus ultrawide, with no dedicated telephoto lens. And the Duo is eSIM-only in every country, with no physical SIM tray, so switching carriers means transferring your eSIM, not swapping a card. It ships with a Duo-exclusive iOS 27.1 build, and Apple already has a day-one update waiting.

Who should wait
If you need a telephoto camera, keep your Pro. If $1,999 makes you flinch, the iPhone 18 Pro does nearly everything else for less. And if you have never bought a first-generation Apple product, remember the pattern: gen one folds are for enthusiasts, gen two is for everyone else. The hinge supply story tells you Apple knows this too.
But if you have wanted a folding iPhone for years and the money is not the issue, set the alarm. Tomorrow at 8:00am ET, the first batch goes to whoever is fastest.
